Govan Mbeki Municipality has no tolerance for non-payers

Operation Ruthula continues. Disconnections form part of an operation by the municipality to cut power to households that fail to pay their municipal bills or that have illegal connections.

HIGHVELD – The Govan Mbeki Municipality has called on locals to report those who are tampering with electricity and anyone with illegal water or electricity.

Addressing a community meeting recently in Evander, Mr Ben Mokola, MMC for Finance, told the residents that the municipality is dealing with the culture of non-payment for municipal services through the operation Ruthula Ama-Cables.

He reported that since the operation began, the municipality has disconnected several households and businesses because of non-payment.

He said the disconnections form part of an operation by the municipality to cut power to households that fail to pay their municipal bills or that have illegal connections.

He called on residents to pay for their services. To report the lawbreakers, contact the municipal Compliance and Law Enforcement team at 017 620 6327 or send an email to madiso.m@govanmbeki.gov.za.
