Household refuse piles up in Evander

EVANDER- Household refuse has not been collected from the streets of Evander for the past three weeks.

“This is a huge health hazard. Maggots and flies are crawling around in the black bags,” said Ms Michelle Ellis, an Evander resident.

Mr Benzi Ka-Soko, chief of staff and acting head of communications at Govan Mbeki Municipality, said the Evander situation is being attended today, 9 April.

“GMM’s teams are working around the clock to intensify service delivery in terms of waste collection, despite the fact that there are insufficient trucks.

“We appeal to the public not to dump refuse anywhere, but should await municipal trucks for collection.

“We are intensifying the process of dealing with backlogs,” Mr Soko.
