Local couple run Two Oceans in Trichardt-backyard

The athletes decided to also run the 50km Loskop Marathon distance that would have taken place on Saturday, 18 April.

TRICHARDT – Since the yearly Two Oceans Marathon was cancelled this year due to Coronavirus, Andrew Wilby and Jolene Carstens of Secunda Marathon Club decided to complete this marathon distance.
“We trained for the Two Oceans, so we decided why not do it anyway.”
The two athletes ran the race distance of 58km, 290 laps at their house in Trichardt on Saturday, 11 April.
Jolene made a joke with her boss, Ms Candice Irving of Worley RSA where she works as a Corporate Procurement Officer and said Ms Irving must sponsor her per kilometre she runs, Ms Irving decided to sponsor both athletes.
When Jolene’s boss sponsored both athletes, Coeng Consulting & Construction Engineers and Elmore Poolman heard about the initiative and joined.
“We used the money to buy rusks, cakes and cold drinks and took it to the staff at ER24 and Mediclinic Highveld to thank them for their hard work during these times.” We do this for the love of our sport.
Secunda SuperSpar sponsored 11 boxes of Easter eggs.
The athletes decided to also run the 50km Loskop Marathon distance that would have taken place on Saturday, 18 April.
Once again, they received sponsors to run the 50km distance on Saturday, 18 April. This time they will use the money to buy something special for the staff at Evander Hospital.
