Some areas in Bethal still without electricity after two days
The electrical team of Govan Mbeki Municipality recently installed a smaller transformer after the original transformer broke, but the smaller one is not working.
Some parts of Bethal have now been without electricity for 48 hours.
Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA Councillor said she has spoken to the manager of the electrical department and the order for a 600kva transformer has been submitted to the supply chain management (SCM).
The electrical team is waiting for this transformer. They do not know how long it is going to take for it to arrive.
Ms Chamberlain asked residents who have electricity to help their fellow-residents in the areas where electricity has been off, by giving them space in their fridges to store their perishables, such as meat.
“Times are tough and nobody can afford to lose food,” said Ms Chamberlain.
“My children cannot even do their schoolwork because it is sent to them on their phones and now they cannot charge their phones,” said a resident.
“We cannot even cook food or make coffee.”
Ms Chamberlain urged residents who can help to store frozen food to contact her at 082 850 1567.
