Community mobilises to close roads to Standerton

The community is of the opinion that it is Lekwa's responsibility to maintain roads, supply water, unblock sewerage pipes and pay Eskom.

4.40pmĀ  UPDATE: No sign of any protest on one of the roads leading into Standerton

The Standerton Advertiser was on the Volksrust Road just after 4pm and saw no community members.

The only people present were traffic officers checking vehicles en route through Meyerville.

A message was circulated on WhatsApp-groups that residents should not go to hot spots and that a communication will follow.

3.30pm: Community mobilises to close roads to Standerton

According to information just received, residents intend to block roads to Standerton from 4pm to 6pm.

The community is of the opinion that it is Lekwa’s responsibility to maintain roads, supply water, unblock sewerage pipes and pay Eskom.

They furthermore no longer accept it as being a challenge for the municipality.

A demand was given that Eskom be paid and the town fixed.

WhatsApp-groups have in the meantime circulated the message that residents join the protest.
