BETHAL – Certification of documents at the local police station recently turned into disbelief and a traumatic experience for an elderly couple.
The husband (65) and wife (64) requested their names be withheld as this is an ongoing matter with the man taking further action.
They claim to have gone to the station to have documents certified when the man, who is a paraplegic with a prosthetic leg, had leaned against a table.
“I fell to the ground and bumped my head,” is how the man explained an incident that took place in an alleged manhandling by a policeman who came towards the couple and allegedly pushed the man to the ground.
“He had his mask under his mouth and yelled at my wife, all this while spit coming out of his mouth. He threatened to arrest my wife because she was taking photos of me on the floor” said the man.
Although unclear as to what had transpired beforehand, the woman had requested the policeman to stop his shouting on several occasions. The woman managed to help her husband off the floor and they went to seek help.
“We were helped by a policewoman who was completely neutral. She was brilliant in being helpful understanding to the situation that had transpired.”
The Ridge Times contacted spokesman, Const Thomas Mogadime, and brought allegations made against the policeman to his attention.
“The station commander registered a complaint against the policeman which will be investigated by the officer appointed to deal with such complaints.
“The complainant was advised by the station commander to registered a complaint against the policeman, but he never did.”
