Brig Leonard Hlathi issued a statement yesterday about the rape of an 18-year-old girl in Standerton on Sunday, 9 August.
According to the statement, two men were instrumental in luring the victim to the suspect’s house where the incident allegedly took place.
According to information, the victim managed to escape and a member of the public took her to the police station.
A case of rape was opened, as well as one of assault.
The suspect was arrested on Monday, 10 August.
Lieut-Gen Mondli Zuma, provincial commissioner of police, strongly condemned the alleged rape and expressed his disappointment with a crime of such a nature happening in Women’s Month.
The suspect will appear in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court today, 11 August. An internal police investigation is underway.
