SECUNDA – The Govan Mbeki Municipality will be without an executive mayor for the next 14 days following the resignation of Ms Thandi Ngxonono.
Her mayoral committee was dissolved immediately.
It was proposed that an executive mayor be elected.
The DA nominated Ms Ciska Jordaan to be the mayor while the EFF nominated Mr Thabiso Mofokeng.
The ANC rejected that and proposed that the election of the executive mayor be postponed for a period of 14 days.
Opposition parties rejected the proposal and the matter was taken to the process of voting.
The votes were in favour of the ANC.
