Sasol completes several projects in Govan Mbeki municipal area

Company and municipality upgrade pump stations

HIGHVELD – Sasol, through its Ikusasa infrastructure project, recently helped Govan Mbeki Municipality to upgrade pump stations and sewer networks in towns in the area.

The Leandra rising main upgrade is currently underway and it was initiated on Monday, 12 October.

Sasol plans to complete this pump station in April next year.

With the Leandra project, Sasol is working with the municipality and the Leandra community by using local service providers to do the project.

Sasol decided to get involved with several projects when they noticed that the towns within the Govan Mbeki municipal area have numerous problems with pump stations and sewer networks, including the inadequate design of existing infrastructures, sewer network blockages and capacity challenges.

“Due to shortfalls in the infrastructure there is a risk of sewers polluting the environment and negatively affecting the community,” said Ms Mashudo Ndou, vice president of Sasol Corporate Affairs.

“For this reason, Sasol, as a responsible and caring corporate business, took on this consultative initiative as part of its Social Investment to support the municipality by addressing the problematic sewer spillages and overflows.”

Sasol already helped to complete engineering development in Leandra, Kinross and Trichardt.

“The successful execution of this project will eliminate the risk of sewers polluting the environment and negatively affecting the quality of life in the community, which is the most important outcome for Sasol,” said Ms Ndou.
