BETHAL – A property rental agent from eMzinoni will spend the festive season behind bars.
The Bethal Magistrate’s Court revoked Ms Leah Motsweni’s bail on 30 November on grounds of witness tampering.
Ms Motsweni who was the property agent for a Chinese man is being accused of kidnapping and robbing him in October.Ms Motsweni was arrested on 27 October in connection with kidnapping, robbery, assault and fraud.
The Chinese property owner, who lives in Gauteng, claimed that he and two of his employees travelled to eMzinoni for a meeting with Ms Motsweni on 9 October, but upon arrival the employees, Ms Motsweni and two unidentified men assaulted him and then held him hostage for several days.
During this time, the businessman was allegedly forced to transfer large sums of money into the bank accounts of his captors.
The Chinese reported the incident to the police after he was released, but by then the two employees and the two unidentified men who pounced on him at the meeting he had with Ms Motsweni, fled and have not yet been arrested.
Ms Motsweni was arrested and released on R8 000 bail.
The bail conditions stipulated that she was not to contact the victim or witnesses.
The Chinese informed the police that Ms Motsweni contacted him after being granted bail and her bail was revoked.
The case was postponed to 13 January.
