HIGHVELD – Potholes in many streets in the Highveld area are daily getting larger as the rainfall in the area continues.
At some streets in Trichardt, Secunda and Bethal, motorists have to stop and wait for other motorists to pass as they can only drive on one side of the road because of all the potholes.
Mr Donald Green, acting head of communication at Govan Mbeki Municipality, said the municipality’s road rehabilitation project will kick off soon and they are planning to fill up potholes in many towns in the municipal area.
The roads that will be repaired include Rapportryer Street, Bekker Street, Grey Street and the intersection at Grey and PDP Kruger Street in Trichardt, portions of Solly Zwane Street, Bram Fischer Street and Rotterdam Street in Evander, the link at Ext 15 Standerton and Chief Albert Luthuli in eMbalenhle, Khubheka Street and Lindile Nxiweni Street in eMbalenhle, Honeysuckle Street and Spitz Street in Kinross and Mvukuzane Street and Getrude Dludlu Street in Lebohang.
Mr Green said they hope this project will provide a relief for motorists and the rehabilitation of the roads and other infrastructures will take place in phases.
