Hawks transport Sassa-official from Standerton Police Station to Nelspruit after arrest

According to a statement of the Hawks, more than R4-million in salaries were paid between 2006 and 2020.

Members of the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation in Mpumalanga traced and arrested a Sassa-official during the night of Friday, 26 February.

The woman (59) from Volksrust was apprehended in connection with fraud charges.

She allegedly submitted a fraudulent matric certificate in 2006, one of the requirements for employment.

According to Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, the office of Sassa was vetted and the qualifications were tested by the Department of Education.

The department discovered that her matric certificate is fraudulent.

Capt Sekgotodi issued a statement on 27 February, saying a case docket was opened in December last year.

According to the statement, more than R4-million in salaries and bonuses were paid between 2006 and 2020.

The woman resigned in December last year.

The suspect was detained at Standerton Police Station and transported just before 11am on Saturday, 27 February to the Nelspruit Police Station.

She was detained, pending a court appearance. The detainee was expected to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 1 March.
