Secunda Regional Court nails rapist with two life sentences

He was arrested on 5 February 2019 in eMbalenhle for the rape of a 13-year-old girl in 2013 and 2014. The victim knew Sidane well.

The Secunda Family Violence, Child Protection And Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit has welcomed the Secunda Regional Court’s double life sentencing of Lucas Sindane (33) on Tuesday, 2 March.

Sindane was sentenced to life imprisonment on two counts of rape each.

He was arrested on 5 February 2019 in eMbalenhle for the rape of a 13-year-old girl in 2013 and 2014. The victim knew Sidane well.

Sgt Palesa Monagane from the FCS worked tirelessly in investigating and securing the conviction.

The accused appeared before the Secunda Regional Court Magistrate, Mr Graham Cupido, on several occasions until he was convicted and sentenced on Thursday 25 February.

After the victim has testified during the trial, Mr Graham Cupido stated that Sindane, who was in a position of authority, took advantage of the victim.

Ms Phumzile Nkosi was the prosecutor in the case.
