Residents of eMbalenhle repair and maintain road to their clinic

“Our municipality said they do not have graders, so we took it upon ourselves to repair the road.”

eMBALENHLE – Locals are now maintaining the road that passes by the clinic in Ext 14.

Residents said they took this decision after being told by the municipality of its limited resources.

“Our municipality said they do not have graders, so we took it upon ourselves to repair the road.

“Our roads here at eMbalenhle are in misery, and it worse after the heavy rain in the last two weeks.

“We have limited resources, they must meet us halfway by providing us with ash. We will bring our hands and do the job,” said Mr Sibusiso Hlolweni, Sapromo president.

The residents said roads to clinics, hospitals and police stations need to be maintained as these institutions are providing essential services.

“It is proven that communities know what they want, as they are showing our municipality that not everything needs millions of rand. There are thing that can be done as long as we work together with our local government.

“Roads were flooded by rain around Govan Mbeki municipality, community is ready to fix and let the municipality bring the required supplies,” said Ms Anita Mkhwebane, DA-councillor.
