Beware hijackers on the R29 at Kinross

He warned motorists not to stop for hitchhikers in this area.

The stretch of road on the R29 between Kinross town and the T-junction near the Kinross Police Station is once again a hijacking hotspot.

Sgt Jaco Nagel, spokesman for the Kinross Police, said three motorists have been hijacked between Wednesday, 3 March and Sunday, 7 March.

He warned motorists not to stop for hitchhikers in this area.

According to Sgt Nagel, all the hijacking victims stopped in that area between 6pm and 8pm to give three hitchhikers a lift.

The hijackers then overpowered their victims, forced them to give up their bank card PINs and then withdrew their victims’ money before tying them up and dumping them along the N17 towards Gauteng.

Kinross endured a spade of hijackings in 2019 on the R29 between Kinross and Leandra until the lockdown began in March last year. Sgt Nagel said all was quiet until the lockdown level was lifted to level 1.
