The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison issued a statement a few minutes ago.
Their MEC, Mr Vusi Shongwe called on police to urgently rearrest three of the seven crime suspects who escaped from Volksrust Police’s holding cells on Sunday, 7 March.
He further called on police management to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding these escapes.
“Although the investigation is already underway, police must always be extremely vigilant when dealing with crime suspects so that they do not place their own lives or those of community members, in danger,” Mr Shongwe said.
He requested communities to work with police to bring the remaining escapees to book.
In conclusion, he applauded police for the swift arrest of the four suspects who were part of the seven, yesterday.
The suspects were arrested in connection with various offences such as robbery, rape, possession of drugs, housebreaking and theft.
