The Hawks were active in Volksrust at the Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Municipality on Thursday, 11 March with a search and seizure operation.
According to a media statement of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Mpumalanga, assisted by Volksrust Local Criminal Centre and Dog Unit Secunda, conducted the operation.
Many complaints were received regarding service delivery.
Preliminary investigation by the team revealed that tender processes were not properly followed and a warrant was obtained from the magistrate.
According to the statement, suspicious irregularities and discrepancies were identified about tender-awarding-processes.
Tenders were awarded to companies and payment was allegedly made without following proper procedures, as well as before services could be rendered.
The money amounts to millions of rands.
The team seized documents awarded to certain companies during a particular period to investigate alleged theft, fraud and corruption.
According to Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, the outcome will be made public.
