Cable thieves arrested in connection with cable theft to the value of R600 000 in Ermelo

According to Mr Paul Bester Koen, reaction officer at ACSU, the suspects stole R600 000 worth of copper cable from 22 transformers over a period of four days.

Alleged copper thieves ran through bushes and jumped electric fences to try and escape ACSU’s reaction team after they allegedly stole copper cables from a company in Ermelo on 9 March.

ACSU’s reaction team chased after them and arrested two suspects who are said to be from Secunda.

Const Nomcebo Msezane, spokesman for Ermelo Police, said they were arrested on charges of theft.

“Aubrey Philiswa Ndzombane (52) and Thomas Moses Mkhatshwa (36) appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on 11 March.

The case was postponed to 18 March however, they are still in custody.
