Hawks arrest second traffic officer for corruption

“Subsequent to the outcry, a waylay investigation was put in place on 22 February and the officers allegedly demanded gratification from a police agent,” he said.

The Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation Team arrested Ms Thembisile Octavia Yende (44), a senior traffic officer from the Msukaligwa Municipality, on a charge of corruption.

She appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on 30 March.

“Ms Yende is the second traffic officer in the area to be arrested on charges of corruption”, Lt-Col Philani Nkwalase, provincial spokesman for the Hawks, said.

According to Lt-Col Nkwalase, the arrest followed after several complaints were received about law enforcement officers who were allegedly soliciting bribes from motorists who committed traffic violations.
