Motorists urged to be vigilant as spikes are placed in road

Spikes are placed on the road to puncture vehicles’ tyres.

A concerned resident warned motorist traveling around Carolina, Chrissiesmeer and Ermelo to be vigilant on the road as criminals placed spikes on the road, as an attempt to get drivers to pull over next to the road.

The resident said in her message that once a vehicle’s tyres are damaged, the suspects follow the vehicle waiting for drivers to stop.

She added that her sister drove over spikes in the road, but kept on driving as she noticed a car following her.

“I was traveling around 7am towards Ermelo, and I saw the spikes on the road after a speed hump, and was already being followed by a grey van,” the resident said.

Const Patience Ngozo, spokesman for Chrissiesmeer Police, said that they have not received any complaints yet, but urged residents to be careful on the road and report any incidents to the nearest police station.
