Bank employee found guilty of fraud in Carolina

The investigation further revealed that the accused defrauded more than 15 clients, using the same modus operandi of applying for more money than the clients wanted.

Moloi Godfrey Selete (32), a former bank employee, was found guilty of fraud in the Carolina Magistrate’s Court on Monday 10 May.

A client of the bank where Moloi was employed, applied for a loan, but became suspicious when it did not pay out immediately.

Sgt Thabang Mokwana, spokesman for Carolina Police, said the client enquired at the bank about the problem and an investigation followed.

It was found that the loan amount was more than the amount that the client applied for and received.

The investigation further revealed that the accused defrauded more than 15 clients, using the same modus operandi of applying for more money than the clients wanted.

“He would then take the difference and transfer it to his personal bank account.”

The accused was arrested and received a sentence of 24 year’s imprisonment with an option of paying a R120 000 fine.
