SECUNDA – Govan Mbeki Municipality has procured Brendan Village through the Mpumalanga Department of Human Settlement.
This was revealed by the executive mayor, Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma, during his State of the Municipality Address last week.
“Govan Mbeki Municipality has now acquired land for the people that will be developed to establish a model form of a city or town.
“Brendan Village (and the land around it) now belongs to Govan Mbeki Municipality.
“The plan is that Council must approve a model town that would seek to see mixed developments that will advance all communities of Govan Mbeki Municipality,” said Mr Zuma.
The mayor also said Pan African Resources (Gold mining company) is in the final stage of transferring the land to the municipality and there will be more than 4 000 residential stands added to the Secunda west corridor.
He also mentioned that the idea of the segmentation of the municipality into a strategic economic zone, was a stroke of genius as it will allow free flow in the planning for the future of the institution.
“As we advance towards becoming a city, allow me to affirm the vision in the form that it was adopted in terms of planning.
“Bethal and eMzinoni will be our tourist destination.
“Therefore investments made to that particular area must be aligned towards achieving this particular vision.
“It is for that particular reason that, together with the provincial government, we are going to ensure that we build a state of the art youth centre with sporting facilities and other supporting necessities for the purposes of all young people.
“This investment is estimated at more than R40-m in the future,” said Mr Zuma.
A long outstanding development in extension 11,eMzinoni, will resume where more than 5 300 residential units are being developed with a mixed human settlement establishment and upgrades.
