Cllr Dumisile Nhlengethwa passes on

In a meeting held to announce the news, the district council represented by the different political parties serving in council, expressed their shock and condolences to the Nhlengethwa family, the political party she was serving and the GSDM family on 24 May.

Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) mourns the passing of Cllr Dumisile Nhlengethwa, who passed away in the early hours of 24 May.

According to Ms Bongi Ka Dube, spokesman of GSDM, Cllr Nhlengethwa was the councillor of the ANC in the district.

She was appointed and served as the member of the Mayoral Committee leading the Infrastructure and Technical Services portfolio.

Ms Dube said she was trusted with a number of positions of authority in the recent past years of her career and political journey.

“These included serving as a chairperson of the portfolio committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) in the National Assembly, and member elect at Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature.

“She was also the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, a position she held until she joined GSDM in 2016,” Ms Ka Dube said.

She added, Cllr Nhlengethwa was very involved and highly passionate about her work and will be remembered for her drive to improve roads through the road infrastructure programme of the district.
