Vaal Business Chamber in Standerton gives their take on power interruptions

Mr Gary van Aswegen, chairman, unequivocally stated said the community should not be misled as to the reasons why there is no power.

Vaal Business Chamber came out guns blazing about the current load shedding.

Mr Gary van Aswegen, chairman, unequivocally stated the community should not be misled as to the reasons why there is no power.

“It is not your fault that we are exceeding the NMD of 55MVA during winter,” Mr Van Aswegen also said.

“You pay for your electricity and are entitled to it.

“Feed your children, keep them warm and drink as much water as required.”

According to him, Lekwa Municipality has robbed the community of their electricity by not paying Eskom.

“The damage done to the infrastructure with tripping will be eradicated completely if the NMD is lifted.

“Unfortunately, Eskom is punishing residents for the debt owed by the municipality.

Mr Van Aswegen added that illegal connections and theft are not the reason for the problems.

“Illegal connections are the responsibility of the police and municipality to sort out.”

According to him, Eskom indicated that it will lift the NMD to more than 100MVA if they receive R200-million.
