Ermelo Magistrate’s Court sentences two men to 12 year’s imprisonment for murder

“Witnesses told the court they saw Motha and Mathebula stabbing the victim in the chest and fled the scene with bloodied knives.”

Ermelo Magistrate’s Court recently sentenced two men for the murder of Mr Sandile Sdumo Mabuza in 2018.

Lindo Motha and Mpendulo Mathebula, both aged 24, were handed a sentence of 12 year’s imprisonment and their right to possess a firearm in terms of the Firearm Control Act 60/2000 were revoked.

According to Const Bathobile Khumalo, spokesman for Lothair Police, the court heard how Mr Mabuza was attacked by the two suspects on 22 September 2018.

The incident happened outside a local tavern.

“Witnesses told the court they saw Motha and Mathebula stabbing the victim in the chest and fled the scene with bloodied knives.”

Paramedics certified the victim dead on the scene.

Lothair Police’s station commander, Capt Vusi Mahlangu, applauded the investigator Det Sgt Mfanafuthi Mbokanè for his efforts with the investigation.

He also mentioned that this sentence will serve as a deterrent to future offenders.
