TRICHARDT – The police are investigating the deaths of three people whose bodies were found around Trichardt and on towards Bethal in the last two months.
The latest body found is that of an elderly man whose body was found in a field along the N17 between Bethal and Trichardt on June 12.
The body was discovered by a passerby who thought that the man was just sleeping in the field.
The passerby called out to the man, but there was no response. The person then alerted the police.
The deceased was wearing a blue overall top and a white cap.
His shoes were found a few meters from the corpse.
ER24 responded to the scene where they pronounced the man dead.
The body was taken to the Bethal government mortuary.
The police ask that anyone with information or who knows the family of the unknown man contact Det Andreas Strydom at 060 802 2876 or Mr Bakkie Jele at 073 1363 652.
The Trichardt police are also still looking for information or the family of a woman who was found murdered in a field close to Trichardt on May 18.
According to Sgt Valencia Koma, spokesman for the Trichardt Police Station, a horse rider came across the woman in the field on a farm in the area and contacted the police at about 16:00.
The police found the naked body of the woman lying face down with an ANC T-shirt around her neck.
Sgt Koma said the woman had multiple stab wounds around the upper body and there were burns on her thighs and lower abdomen.
Paramedics certified her dead on the scene.
She is suspected to be between 30 and 40 years old.
A case of murder was opened at Trichardt Police Station and they are investigating the case.
The police urged anyone who might have information that can help in this case, or might know the deceased woman’s family to contact the investigating officer, Const Amukelani Kwninika at 017 638 0241.
Another body of a man who was found on Tuesday, June 1, on the gravel road from the N17 towards Trichardt Dam, has since been identified by family members.
Police asked that anyone with information regarding the man’s murder, come forward.
The victim’s naked body was found with marks that looked like he had been beaten with a shambok on the buttocks and upper back.
Police suspect the man was already dead when his body was discarded at the scene.
ER24 paramedics certified the man dead on the scene.
Other role players were also summoned to the scene.
A case of murder has been opened.
