EFF pickets in front of Evander Magistrate’s court, wants school to expel serial rapist suspect

The EFF also picketed at the school in eMbalenhle where the suspect works as a teacher

EVANDER – The bail application of a 35-year-old teacher from eMbalenhle who is suspected of being a serial rapist was again postponed by the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, July 1.

His bail application was postponed to July 7 because his attorney was not available.

Economic Freedom Fighters and one victim’s family were picketing outside the court on Thursday, demanding that the suspect not be granted bail.
Ms Nthabeleng Mtolane, the EFF GBV coordinator in the Gert Sibande Region, said they want the Department of Education to release a statement on the matter because one of their teachers is facing serious charges of rape and kidnapping of young women.

The EFF also picketed at the school in eMbalenhle where the suspect works as a teacher and gave school management their letter of demands.

They are demanding that the suspect be expelled from the school.

The EFF also said the suspect must not be transferred to another school until his matter is finalised.

The school management promised to pass the demands to the district and provincial basic education departments because the teacher was employed by them.

The school was given seven days to respond to the demands of EFF.
