Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) has sent out a schedule of forthcoming ordinary Council meetings for 2021/22 financial year.
GMM said it is important for communities to know about these meetings.
Council meetings are held at the Secunda Council Chambers and are open to the public and media unless the following types of business are transacted:
• Legal proceedings
• Arbitration proceedings
• The appointment, emoluments, misconduct or removal of any employee of the Council
• Any other matter which, in the opinion of the Council, may be prejudicial to the Council or the inhabitants of the municipality
The Speaker at his/her discretion may allow on a timeous written application made to him/her by any registered newspaper, radio station, television service or internet publisher to record by electronic means or otherwise the proceedings of a meeting or part thereof.
Participation in the meeting by the public shall be allowed at the discretion of the Speaker of Council.
Due to Covid-19, meetings will be streamed via municipal social media platforms (Facebook: Govan Mbeki Municipality or Twitter: @GovanmbekiM).
Changes to dates, if any, and notices of special Council meetings will be displayed at Council offices, in newspapers or on the official municipal website and social media platforms.
The dates are scheduled as follows:
First quarter – July
Council meeting: Thursday, July 29 at 11am
Reports to be tabled to Council:
• Fourth quarter report for the period ending June 30
August
Council meeting: Thursday, August 26 at 11am
Reports to be tabled to Council:
• First draft of the Annual Report
• Annual financial statements
Second quarter – October
Council meeting: Thursday, October 28 at 11am
Reports to be tabled to Council:
• First quarter report for the period ending September 30
• Budget timetable
November
Council meeting: Thursday, November 25 at 11am
December will be a recess.
