Police warn hitchhikers using R546

The police appeal to the community to use other modes of transport than hitchhiking and also for motorists not to give lifts to strangers.

A case of aggravated robbery was opened at the Evander Police Station last month involving a hitchhiker.

According to the police, a man who was hitchhiking on the R546 from Kinross to Evander, became a victim of a robbery when a vehicle stopped and the occupants pretended to asked for directions, but then robbed the man of his belongings.

The police appeal to the community to use other modes of transport than hitchhiking and also for motorists not to give lifts to strangers.
