Breyten man caught by community after allegedly assaulting and raping woman collecting wood

BREYTEN – Residents took matters into their own hands when they captured a 47-year-old man in connection with rape in Breyten on August 13.

Sgt Thabo Mashegoane, spokesman for the Breyten police, said, “This followed after a 44-year-old woman was raped at Vlakfontein Farm near Breyten while she was collecting wood.”

According to information at the police’s disposal, the man approached the woman asking for water to drink and later when she went to collect firewood, he allegedly attacked and assaulted her.”

According to Sgt Mashegoane, people who were doing some work around the farm caught him on the same day and called the police.

The suspect appeared in court on August 16 and faces charges of rape and assault with the intent to cause grievous harm.

His case was postponed to August 20 pending further investigation.
