Botleng residents wary of serial rapist

However, the residents of Botleng’s fear has led to the murder of two innocent men who were thought to be the rapist.

An unidentified serial rapist is apparently roaming the streets of the Botleng Township in Delmas, causing panic and fear amongst the public.

As with many serial rapists, the suspect is unknown and is in hiding.

However, the residents of Botleng’s fear has led to the murder of two innocent men who were thought to be the rapist.

“A 29-year-old Mozambican national, Mr Alcindo Tivane, was mistakenly killed by community members as they suspected him of being the serial rapist,” Capt Carla Hartley, communication officer for the Delmas Police Station, told Streeknuus.

Capt Hartley further confirmed that a 52-year-old man, Mr Ben Mafa Msibi, was arrested in connection with Mr Tivane’s murder.

He appeared in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court on July 27.

Mr Msibi was granted bail and the date of his next appearance in court is not yet known.

The exact circumstances around the second victim, apparently also murdered for being suspected to be the serial rapist, is unknown.

According to Capt Hartley, the serial rapist’s victims cannot identify the perpetrator.

“During the investigation a lead was followed and the police are currently awaiting DNA results from the Forensic Laboratory,” Capt Hartley said.

Women in the community are in the meantime advised to be vigilant, not to roam the streets of Botleng in the dark, and to stay clear of taverns.

The public is urged to report any suspicious persons to the Delmas Police on 013 665 6820 / 6825.
