Amersfoort Police need information after business robbery

Upon arrival, three suspects were found, two on the roof where entry was allegedly gained and other one was still inside the shop.

A 36-year-old man is due to appear before the Amersfoort Magistrate’s Court on allegations of business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to a statement of the provincial commissioner of police, Amersfoort Police launched a manhunt for two remaining suspects in connection with a business robbery that occurred in Amersfoort in the early hours of Wednesday, August 18.

According to information, police received information about a business robbery in progress at a certain shop at the Zamokuhle township.

They were joined by another police officer who was off duty at the time.

The officer lives in the area and was also alerted about the incident.

Upon arrival, three suspects were found, two on the roof where entry was allegedly gained and the other one was still inside the shop.

The two on the roof fled when they spotted the police, while the remaining suspect reportedly left the shop with a firearm in his hand.

A shooting ensued, injuring the suspect and the said firearm and ammunition were seized.

The suspect was taken to hospital and is currently under police guard.

The court appearance has been scheduled for September 2.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the incident.

Lieut-Gen Semakaleng Manamela welcomed the arrest of the one suspect, as well as the confiscation of the firearm and ammunition.

She further ordered that the other suspects be swiftly brought to book.
