Suspects to appear before Amersfoort Magistrate’s Court in connection with scamming woman

The woman reportedly began screaming for help and the suspects fled the scene leaving behind the money that was alleged to have been taken from her.

AMERSFOORT – The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lt Gen, Semakaleng Manamela has welcomed the arrest of three suspects for attempting to scam a woman.

The men, aged between 28 and 32 are due to appear before the Amersfoort Magistrate’s Court today, September 1, following their arrest on Monday, August 30.

Reports from police in Amersfoort revealed that the woman was in town when the three men are said to have approached her.

One of the men allegedly grabbed her handbag, exchanged her purse with an envelope and took out an undisclosed amount of money.

The woman reportedly began screaming for help and the suspects fled the scene leaving behind the money that was alleged to have been taken from her.

Amersfoort Clinic personnel came to her aid and notified the Amersfoort police who acted swiftly and chased after the suspects.

Rural safety officials also got on board and joined the police officers.

They spotted the identified vehicle with suspects and managed to stop it and succesfully arrested them.

Lt Gen Manamela has applauded the joint effort displayed by stakeholders as well as their immediate response to the information and successful arrest of the suspects.
