Secunda Regional Court sentences serial rapist from Standerton to 4 life sentences

Mlangu's reign of terror involved the robbing and raping of seven women hitchhiking from Standerton to Secunda between 2014 and 2017.

The provincial commissioner of police, Lieut-Gen Semakaleng Manamela, issued a statement last night about the hefty sentence handed down to Zakhele Isaac Mlangu (40) in the Secunda Regional Court on Friday, September 10.

Mlangu’s reign of terror involved the robbing and raping of seven women hitchhiking from Standerton to Secunda between 2014 and 2017.

The investigation of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Standerton resulted in the culprit’s arrest at a local hospital on February 5, 2017.

Mlangu’s sentences include 81 years imprisonment running concurrently with the life sentences.

He was also declared4 unfit to possess a firearm.

His name was added to the National Register for Sex Offenders as well.

Police in Mpumalanga applauded the hefty sentences in a time when attention is drawn to gender-based violence in society.
