Criminals swindle and defraud residents of Ermelo

“The person phones the guesthouse and indicates that he is an Eskom representative that will cut the electricity due to non-payment or arrears.

ERMELO – Criminals posed as employees of Eskom to swindle and defraud residents in the Msukaligwa municipal area.

According to one of the employees in the finance department of the Msukaligwa Municipality, he was informed about this by two guesthouses that were targeted.

“The person phones the guesthouse and indicates that he is an Eskom representative that will cut the electricity due to non-payment or because their accounts are in arrears.

The scammers demand immediate payment and supplies false ammounts.

Mr Mandla Zwane, spokesman of the Msukaligwa Municipality, one of the employees who spoke to the alleged scammer, was in charge of the guesthouse’s accounts which were up to date.
