A man and woman were rushed to Evander Hospital after they were attacked in Chris Hani section on Sunday morning, September 12.
According to residents, the couple was found on the ground outside their house. The woman was naked.
These residents claim to have phoned the eMbalenhle Police Station but the call was never answered. They phoned for an ambulance.
The neighbours allege that a gang of criminals operating in the area attacked the couple.
“We have lost hope in our police because we were calling them to come to the scene but they failed us. And they will blame us if we fight these criminals ourselves,” said Ms Lolo Mabizela.
“These two people were badly injured. The criminals threw them out of their house and left them unconscious. We have been complaining to the police about these boys who are roaming around with pangas and knives in our streets. The police have not responded.”
Ms Mabizela said the gangsters took everything that belonged to the injured couple and turned their house upside down.
“It looks as if their house had been raided,” said Ms Mabizela.
eMbalenhle Police Station commander, Col Maria Sibanyoni, refuted the allegations and said police are attending to the victims at the hospital and gathering information about the incident.
She said she was called by a community member who alerted her about two people who were badly injured and were taken to hospital and said she then sent officers to attend to them.
No one has yet been arrested.
Col Sibanyoni urged anyone with information about the attack or the suspects to come forward.
