Police and Govan Mbeki municipal law enforcers discovered suspected stolen goods in a rental pace at eMbalenhle on Tuesday, September 14.
According to municipal law officers, they stopped a suspicious-looking person pushing a wheelbarrow towards eMbalenhle small business centre.
The wheelbarrow was full of electrical, plumbing and other building material.
“When we began questioning the man about his destination, he told us to follow him,” said Mr Zakhele Ntshangase.
“Upon our arrival at Ext 8, the suspect opened a room filled with building material. We were surprised to find an adjacent room full of hardware stock. It looked like a storeroom.”
Mr Ntshangase said the suspect claimed that the rooms belonged to a man from Mozambique. The suspect did not know when the owner of the rooms was returning.
“We called the eMbalenhle Police to assist us in confiscating all the goods because we needed a truck for the load,” said Mr Ntshangase.
He also said while the police were helping them load the goods onto police bakkies, the suspect disappeared. However, Mr Ntshangase believes he will be found and arrested.
Four police bakkies were used to load the suspected stolen goods.
Police said no one has yet been arrested as the suspect is at large.
They are still waiting for the owner to identify the goods and open a case.
“We suspect the goods had been stolen from a specific business,” said Col Maria Sibanyoni, eMbalenhle police station commander.
