Enpower Machite warns that scamsters are doing their rounds in Bethal and eMzinoni

She said that this is a scam to rob customers of their money.

Service provider, Enpower Machite is warning residents of a scam doing the rounds in Bethal and eMzinoni.

In a press release sent by Ms Tess Maroos, media liaison for Enpower Machite, she said customers need to be wary of imposters requesting money from customers to be removed from a municipal disconnection list.

“Enpower Machite recently received information from a newly converted customer that someone had called posing as an employee of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, indicating that they are due for disconnection as a result of not purchasing electricity.

“This imposter subsequently requested that the customer deposit money into their bank account to be removed from the disconnection list,” said Ms Maroos.

She said that this is a scam to rob customers of their money.

“Please note that all customers converted to smart prepayment will not be disconnected for not having purchased electricity until now.

“Furthermore, Enpower Machite will never request customers to deposit money for removal from a disconnection list,” said Ms Maroos.

Responding to the press release Mr Lucky Mhlongo, GMM’s communication officer said: “We want to urge the public not to fall prey to these criminals, but to report these acts of fraud without delay.”

GMM is cautioning customers to refrain from engaging in such acts.

Customers are urged to report such matters to the LPU and Commercial Customer Care by calling 087 550 0765.
