Cyclist shot dead during alleged robbery in Bethal

Avoid part of N17 as it is an active crime scene currently.

A man was shot dead in Bethal earlier this afternoon, November 3, during an alleged attempted robbery at Overland Liquor Store.

The police’s spokesman could not yet confirm the incident, but according to a source, it appears as if the security guards of Overland shot at the robbers and the bullets hit a cyclist, as well as a vehicle in the area.

The window of the vehicle is broken.

It is not known yet if the man on the bicycle was one of the alleged robbers or merely a passerby.

The Bethal Community Policing Forum (CPF) alerted the community to avoid the area between the Sasol Filling Station and Klipfontein Butchery and to use an alternative route other than the N17 from Chris Hani Street to Jabulani Selepe Street.

The road was reopened at about 17:15.
