Shots were fired this morning in Bethal’s CBD near the Sasol Filling Station
Bethal Police arrested a 32-year-old man for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and a 26-year-old man for the possession of ammunition.
The spokesman of Bethal Police, Const Thomas Mogadime, said the arrest came after members of the community saw the 32-year-old discharge a gun in public.
While the police were on their way to the scene, they noticed a group of people near a store store in the CBD.
“They pointed the police in the direction of a group of men carrying dangerous weapons other than firearms.
“As the police approached these men, the men ran away towards Clerq Street,” said Const Mogadime.
The police did, however, managed to arrest the suspect who discharged the firearm in public.
The police confiscated a black 9mm pistol and ammunition
The 26-year-old was found with ammunition in his pocket..
The station commander of Bethal Police, Capt Anne Steyn, thanked all the parties involved as well as the community who helped to alert the police and arrest the men.
She appreciated the Bethal CPF members who helped the police.
