The teacher who is currently facing 18 charges of sexual assault, self sexual assault and compelled sexual assault on learners under the age of 18 years, appeared in the Secunda Regional Court on Tuesday, November 16.
The matter was postponed to February 25, 2022.
In court proceedings, Magistrate Graham Cupido voiced his concerns that not all paper work was in order at the time of the case reaching regional court.
He said the postponement to next year’s date should be enough time for the defence to get all outstanding statements outstanding and for the psychology results to be submitted.
The teacher was released on R20 000 bail on June 1.
His bail conditions include that he does not have any contact with persons under the age of 18 years, or any of the victims.
He is also not allowed to engage in any social media platforms.
The teacher was arrested on May 22 after the learners had come forward with the allegations.
*Editor’s note: The law is clear that the identity of the victims should be protected at all costs, and thus the media is not allowed to publish any information that can lead to the identification of the victims. It is for this reason that the names of the school and the accused are being withheld.
