Court metes out hefty sentences after kidnapping

Mr Thabethe was put into the boot of a BMW and the vehicle drove off.

Standerton Magistrate’s Court recently sentenced Sipho Welcome Sibiya (37) and Thulani Jan Skhosana (35) to 18 years imprisonment each.

According to a media statement of the Sakhile Police, they were found guilty of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, kidnapping and attempted murder.

Police indicated that Sibiya and Skhosana entered the outside room of Mr Themba William Thabethe on August 19, 2015 at about 21:40.

The door was forced open and they demanded the car keys of Mr Thabethe’s friend.

He could not tell them the whereabouts of his friend.

The culprits subsequently forced him to tell his sister to open the door of the main house.

According to police, the sister opened the door, as requested.

The men, accompanied by Mr Thabethe, entered the house and asked his sister for the car keys

A shot was then fired.

Mr Thabethe was put into the boot of a BMW and the vehicle drove off.

He was released between Kinross and Evander.

According to the statement, he saw a police vehicle and explained what had happened.

Mr Thabethe was taken to the Charl Cilliers Police Station and back to Standerton.

After a case was opened, the accused were arrested and taken into custody.
