Police arrest those suspected in the murder of eMbalenhle taxi boss

So-called mastermind in the murder was denied bail.

Mr Vuyani Buthelezi, a suspect in Mr Fannie Khumalo’s murder case appeared before the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, January 4.

Mr Buthelezi was remanded in custody to consult with his attorney for bail application that will be heard on Tuesday, January 11.

Vukanini Taxi Association members attended the case in numbers to see who was the suspected hitman in their member’s murder docket.

Mr Khumalo was gunned down on November 20 last year while preparing his minibuses to transport commuters. Four armed men shot him seven times in the chest.

Among the suspects is Mr Elias Mhlanga, a taxi owner and Vukanini Taxi Association member.

According to the association, his membership was terminated with immediate effect.

Mr Mhlanga was arrested in December next to the Kinross Police Station while Mr Buthelezi was arrested in KwaZulu-Natal.

The third arrested suspect turned state witness.

Mr Mhlanga is the alleged mastermind in the murder of Mr Khumalo.
He was denied bail on Monday, January 10.
The case was postponed to January 25, when Mr Mhlanga will appear in the dock with his co-accused.
