Woman on farm in Holmdene district escapes armed robbery

A search was launched for the criminals after they fled, including Mr Jandré Kasselman piloting an aircraft to look for the assailants.

An attack on a woman in the Holmdene-region on Tuesday, January 4, had all the makings of a full-scale farm attack, but police nevertheless, labelled it an armed robbery.

Ms Carika Ras’ morning ritual of feeding the horses, was abruptly interrupted when two assailants, one armed with a knife, arrived on the farm Rietkuil.

She sustained wounds to her arms, hands, legs and stomach and an undisclosed amount of money was stolen from her handbag.

A message shared on a WhatsApp-group alerted the community about the crime that unfolded on the farm.

Famers in the surrounding area, Standerton Police, Val Police, Kasselman Security Services and AfriForum’s northern region’s proto-team, as well as Jeria Ambulance Services, made the 30km to the farm.

A search was launched for the criminals after they fled, including Mr Jandré Kasselman, piloting an aircraft to look for the assailants.

W/O Nkosinathi Khanyile, spokesman of the Standerton Police, estimated that the attack took place between 7:30 and 8:00.

The ambulance services treated Ms Ras and she later went to a doctor.

Ms Ras was not available for comment.

The suspects are still at large.
