A shootout occurred at the Secunda Mall, before 14:00 today, January 16.
According to Secunda Mall management, the Diamonds & Pearls Jewelry Store was yet again a target of an armed robbery.
In a statement, the management said six armed robbed the store this afternoon and afterwards fled in an Audi.
They said no one was injured.
Bystanders and shoppers said that several shots were fired. Some saw the robbers armed with “big guns”.
Terrified shoppers began screaming and running in various directions and into stores to take cover.
Various emergency services are currently on the scene.
When reporting from the scene, an area has been cornered off, however, shoppers still have access to the rest of the mall.
The Ridge Times will get more details when made available by the provincial spokesperson for the police.
Diamonds & Pearls in the Secunda Mall was also the target of an armed robbery on 20 May last year, but the
robbery was foiled when the shop owner surprised the robbers and a shootout ensued.
That morning a robber was shot dead and another wounded. Their accomplices managed to escape.
