Altogether three suspects were arrested on Sunday, January 9 in connection with possession of property, suspected to be stolen.
According to a media statement by the provincial commissioner of police, police conducted a routine patrols at about 05:00, noticing three men who were carrying bags that looked heavy.
When the suspects saw the police vehicle, they walked at a faster pace.
Police subsequently stopped the van and searched them, beginning with the one who was behind.
They found round copper inside his bag.
Upon interrogation, he told them he took it from a transformer in one of the sections of Daggakraal.
After apprehending him, the other two were chased and found hiding, in a toilet of a nearby tavern.
They were also searched and a round block of copper, similar to the first one, was found and a backpack, full of tools.
Police went to the scene to check and found a transformer, tampered with, and its covers lying down .
The suspects were due to appear in the Amersfoort Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, January 11.
