Households in Standerton run hither and thither due to poor water supply

The water problems in Ward 10, Standerton is ongoing and many a complaint has been posted on a WhatsApp-group about intermittent supply.

Mid-town residents are reeling under the effects of poor water supply and that old culprit, the Kieser Street-reservoir is taking the hammering.

The communications department of the Lekwa Municipality issued a notice the past week that delivery of a new booster pump could be expected by Friday, January 14.

According to the notice, the faulty pump was sent for repairs and no standby pump available.

Lekwa contributed the delay in delivery due to the festive season and said the supplier promised delivery.

The Standerton Advertiser contacted the communications manager of the municipality, Ms Thobeka Mtshiselwa, via WhatsApp, on Thursday, January 13 at 11:24 for an update on the situation.

A request was also made to provide the contact details of the supplier to ascertain what the reasons for the delay are.

No feedback was received at the time of going to press.

Ms Wilma Venter, ward councillor from the Freedom Front Plus, indicated on January 14 that a ward committee will be elected.

“It is of utmost importance to elect the right persons to serve on the committee,” Ms Venter said.

There will be a minimal payment for elected committee members.

Committee members must live in Ward 10 and be on the voters roll.

Only 10 people may be elected and monthly meetings will have to be attended..

Both town and Vodacom fall under Ward 10.

Residents can be nominated at the Ext 6 Hall on January 25 at 16:00 and Standerton Town Hall at 18:00.

Elections will take place at the Ext 6 Hall on February 16 at 16:00 and Standerton Town Hall at 18;00.
