Standerton Police are looking for a man after murder incident

Police were informed about the incident and opened a case of murder, with an additional charge of attempted murder.

Police in Standerton are looking for a man in connection with a murder that occurred outside a pub in town in the evening of Saturday, January 29.

According to a media statement dated February 1, an argument reportedly began at about 20:20 between a man and his girlfriend.

The man, who was armed, allegedly shot the woman outside.

According to information, another man believed to be the brother of the woman, tried to intervene after noticing the shooting.

He was also shot in the lower body.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot, leaving behind his vehicle.

The brother reportedly drove with the woman to seek medical assistance, but she succumbed to her injuries upon arrival at hospital.

The man was treated for his injuries in the same hospital and later discharged.

Police were informed about the incident and opened a murder case, with an additional charge of attempted murder.

A manhunt followed and an investigation is underway.

Police requested Mr Jan Mofokeng to come forward, believing he can be of assistance in their probe.

Anyone, who knows his whereabouts, is urged to alert the police immediately.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lieut-Gen Semakaleng Manamela, strongly condemned the incident.

“These incidents where women are murdered by their partners or ex-partners are very disturbing,” he said.

“We cannot allow such acts of violence to prevail.

“The suspect must be hunted, arrested, and brought to book to face the full might of the law.”
