Police grab duo for selling drugs in Leandra

The police searched the house and found and seized drugs with an estimated street value of R700 000.

Lucky Mthobeni (45) and Lerato Mahlangu (22) were remanded in custody by the Leandra Magistrate’s Court and the case is postponed to February 28 for formal bail application.

They were arrested in Leandra on Friday, February 18 for possession, dealing and trafficking of drugs.

The police found drugs worth about R700 000 in their house.

FEBRUARY 19

The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation based in Middelburg, Witbank Crime Intelligence and Middelburg K9 arrested two suspects, aged 22 and 45, during a multidisciplinary disruptive operation  conducted on Friday, February 18 for possession, dealing and trafficking of drugs at Leandra.

Capt Dineo Sekgotodi, provincial spokesperson for the Hawks in Mpumalanga said information was received and followed up about  suspects who were dealing in drugs.

A search and seizure warrant  was  executed at the suspects’ house.

“On arrival two suspects, a man and a woman, were found sleeping in a  room.”

The police searched the house and found and seized drugs with an estimated street value of R700 000.

The provincial head for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Maj- Gen Zodwa Mokoena, welcomed the arrest and applauded the team for the joint operation which resulted in the arrest of the  most troublesome drug dealers in the area of Leandra.

She further appreciated the community for the information provided.

She concluded by  urging the community to continue providing information to the police.

The suspects are expected  to appear before the Leandra Magistrate’s Court on Monday, February 21.
