GMM council adjourns because not enough councillors show up for meeting

They said their standing orders state clearly that councillors should be given an agenda five days prior to the meeting to prepare themselves for the meeting.

The Govan Mbeki Municipality’s council meeting has been adjourned because councillors could not form a quorum on Monday, February 28.
DA ,EFF, IFP and ATM councillors didn’t attend the meeting. They accused the office of the speaker of poor co-ordination of the meeting without following council standing orders.
They said their standing orders state clearly that councillors should be given an agenda five days prior to the meeting to prepare themselves for the meeting.
Some said they only received the agenda on Saturday for today’s meeting.
Freedom Front Plus councillors who also attended the meeting, raised the same concern.
The meeting was adjourned and the speaker, Cllr Fikile Magagamela, promised that it will be called again soon.
